We’ve been nominated by designosaurYEAH (makers of very cool dinosaur inspired jewellery) and The Emperor’s Old Clothes (unique handmade clothing) to take part in the Brighton Etsy team blog hop. The blog hop involves answering a selection of questions and then nominating other people from the team to do the same. Here are our answers…
What inspired you to start your business or Etsy shop?
YUK FUN naturally evolved out of a desire to work on a project together and wanting to design clothes we would like to wear ourselves. Patrick had worked on several illustration commissions for children’s clothing brand No Added Sugar and Lucy had finished a pattern cutting course around a similar time and so YUK FUN was born…We had dabbled with individual etsy shops previously but we felt like it would be a fun idea to work on something together.
We’re looking at goals in the Brighton Etsy Team this month, can you share one of your goals for your shop for the next six months?
We’re hoping to expand our range with more designs for summer and want to get more involved with the Brighton Etsy Team. We really need to work on our social media presence too and improve our product photography. Our next big project is to put together a lookbook using paper sculptures which we are both really into…(See Patrick’s residency and Lucy’s costume work)
What are you working on at the moment?
Lucy is sewing samples for a new dress design so we’re testing out various fabric printers right now. New fabrics keep arriving with our designs on which is exciting! Patrick is always working on new illustrations but is particularly focusing on summery designs as the weather starts to (very slowly) hot up!
If you could give other sellers or someone looking to start their own craft business one piece of advice, what would you say?
Make something you love and that you enjoy making! If you really believe in your product, it will really show through.
