Music Video Friday: End of the Road Special
We took a trip down to Larmer Tree Gardens for End of the Road Festival last weekend for a dose of sun, rain, booze and a tonne of live music. Here are some of our favourite music videos by the best acts of the weekend, in no particular order.
Out of all of the acts, Mac was the person we were most looking forward to seeing. He was great fun to watch, sounded great and ended his set by crowd surfing his way to the Big Top so he could watch his mates Pond perform. Patrick was very pleased to have touched Mac’s foot as he sailed over our heads. One of the highlights of his set was a not entirely faithful cover of Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles.
Kelly Lee Owens was a really nice surprise on Friday afternoon – we knew nothing about her but her one woman show was real immersive. The video is an amusing take on the world of DIY music videos featuring some interesting dancing and lovely snowy landscapes.
Parquet Courts played a fine, muscular (yes muscular) set on Friday evening. Here’s the pleasingly cinematic music video for Berlin Got Blurry.
Poor Marika Hackman had to wait for about 45 minutes for the sound people to fix the monitors before she could start her set. It was well worth the wait – she was very very good. In the viddy she’s backed up by The Big Moon, who we loved watching last year at the festival.
Another band we didn’t know much about were The Spook School, who really brightened up a very rainy Sunday with excellent pop punk songs and very amusing stage chat. The video will charm you no end!
Ty Segall ended Saturday night at the Garden Stage with a bang, his raw rock n roll stirring up the crowd. So many people were crawling around on the ground trying to find mobile phones that had been lost in the melee. If you don’t like gory or blood, don’t watch this video!
Real Estate were as charming as you would imagine them to be, all sunny melodies and warming harmonies. Here’s their new video which YOU CAN COLOUR-IN!
We just managed to squeeze ourselves into the Tipi Tent on Sunday to catch Girl Ray. Couldn’t really see much of them, but the music was lovely. Here’s our Patrick’s favourite song by them, set to a costume drama with an intoxicating “will they, won’t they” storyline and some questionable period features.
The Lemon Twigs played a ridiculously bombastic set in the Saturday sunshine on the Garden stage, with many a drum solo and impressive high kicks. Step into the future with them in this video for As Long As We’re Together.
And finally here’s King Khan & The Shrines with a humorous superhero themed viddy. They were amazing on Sunday – King Khan and his eight piece band really lit up the Big Top with their hot moves and truly outrageous costumes.
