Parallel Worlds 2019
Excited to share our poster design for Parallel Worlds 2019 – A Conference on Videogame Design and Culture. BIG thanks to Marie Foulston who commissioned us.
Our idea for the poster was that it would feature lots of characters playing virtual reality video games. The gamers are drawn in blue and white and the virtual world is in orange, pink and white.
Here are some close-ups of the characters:
Ping pong people playing on a futuristic virtual hover table
Some dude riding a virtual show jumping horse
A bunny squaring up to a beefy opponent
Some virtual petting of a virtual pet
As always everything we do starts in a sketchbook. Below are some of Patrick’s initial sketchbook doodlings.
Patrick picked out the character on the right hand side of the sketchbook page and paired her with a beefcake ninja. Here’s the pencil redraw.
And the coloured-in version after tracing the image on the computer.
Neither of us have actually played a proper video game for about 10 years so this was a really fun project to get into. Patrick’s favourite game from yesteryear is Bomb Jack (although he remembers it as Bomber Jack). It had the best music!
Lucy was obsessed with Final Fantasy 7:
